by 1854 as
shown by his naturalization papers. The O'Donahue's came to the United
States 15 July 1847 and it shows they were at Bellows Falls, Vermont.

Mrs. Mary Donahue Dies
Passes Away Sunday Morning
- Had Lived in Porter County Since 1854
Mrs. Mary Donahue died at
the home of her son, about a mile west of town. Sunday morning at 2
o'clock, aged 88 years, 5 months and 14
days.The deceased was born in
County Kerry, Ireland where she was married in 1834 to Florence
Donahue, who died in this city in 1873. The couple emigrated to
American about
1850, and in 1854 settled on a farm west of Valparaiso. Ten children
were born to them, six of whom are still living. Mrs. Johanna Barry
of this city, Mrs. Thomas Hannon of Morgan Township, John Donahue
residing northwest of town, Mrs. Patrick Donahue of Chicago and
Daniel and Thomas Donahue who reside in the State of Washington.
With the
exception of
the
short time she lived in Texas, Mrs. Donahue had resided in Porter
County continuously since 1854.
She was a devoted member of
the Catholic church all her life, and was fortified by its sacraments
in her last hours.
The funeral
will be
held
from St. Paul's church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock with interment at
St. Paul's cemetery.

Donahue
The funeral of Mrs. Mary
Donahue was held from St. Paul's church this morning at 10 o'clock, and
was
attended by large number of relatives and friends. Rev. Father Hogan
conducted
the service. Six grandsons of the deceased acted as pallbearers. The
interment
was at St. Paul's cemetary. Among the out of town guests were M.J.
O'Brien of
Kouts, Jerry Ryan and wife, Thomas Hannon and wife of Marshall Grove,
Mrs. W.
Tully and Mrs. P. Clifford of South Chicago, Mrs. J.W. Murphy of Grand
Crossing
and Mrs. P. Donahue of South Chicago.

MORTUARY
RECORD:
Mrs.
Johanna Barry (nee
Donahue), died this morning at about 8:30 o'clock of vavular heart
disease, which she had been afflicted for a number of years. She had
been confined to the house and an invalid since last September.
Deceased
was born near
Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland, 77 years ago last March. She came
to
America with her parents when 14 years of age. At the age of 17 she
was married in Ohio to Thomas Barry, who died in this city in 1890.
Mr. and Mrs. Barry came to Valparaiso in January 1854, since which
time the deceased had continually resided here.
She
is
survived by two
brothers and two sisters -- Thomas Donahue of Ripon, California;
Daniel
Donahue of Opportunity, Washington; Mrs. Patrick Donahue of Chicago,
and Mrs. Thomas Hannon of Morgan Township, this county, besides
numerous nieces and nephews. Daniel Kane, a nephew, was reared by and
has always made his home with her.
Mrs.
Barry
was a devoted
member of the Catholic Church throughout her life, and her last hours
were fortified by the consolations which that faith affords its
faithful
members.
The
funeral will be held
from St. Paul's Catholic church Saturday morning at 9 o'clock,
conducted by Father Hogan. The remains will be laid to rest in St.
Paul's
cemetery beside her husband.

The
funeral of Mrs. Johanna
Barry was held this morning from St. Paul's Church at at 9 o'clock,
conducted
by Rev. Father Hogan. There were many relatives and firends present.
The
pallbearers were John McGillicuddy, David Barry, Michael Donahue,
Edward
Murphy, Al Labrecque and John Cronican. The interment was at St. Paul's
cemetary.

Death of John Donahue
John
Donahue, seventy years
old, a well known farmer, died at ten o'clock yesterday morning
at his home one mile northwest of town. Heart disease, with which
he had suffered a number of years, was the cause of death.
Mr.
Donahue, who was born
in Ireland, had been a resident of Porter County since 1854. He
leaves a wife and eight children -- two sons,Daniel and F.T., of
Chicago, and six daughters, Mrs. Harry Stevenson of Washington
township;
Mrs. Arthur Bushore of this city, Mrs. John Reibly and the Misses Mary, Agnes and Sadie, all of Chicago. Mrs.Johanna
Barry of this city,
and Mrs. Thomas Hannon of Morgan township are sisters of the
deceased.
The
funeral will be held
Wednesday morning at nine o'clock from St. Paul's church, conducted by
Rev. Father Hogan. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

ELLEN
HANNON, TEACHER FOR
35 YEARS, DIES
Sorrow
entered scores of
Porter county homes today when word was received of the death Wednesday
of Mrs.
Ellen O.' Hannon, who through her long service in rural schools had
wielded a
wholesome influence over two generations of citizens. Mrs. Hannon died
Wednesday
afternoon about 2 o'clock at the home of her son, John Hannon of
Marshall
Grove, with whom she had resided since the death of her husband, Thomas
Hannon,
last June.
Miss
Ellen
O.' Donahue,
daughter of Florence and Mary Donahue, was born in Valparaiso 71 years
ago. She
attended St. Paul's parochial school and graduated from that school,
after
which she taught in the rural schools of Center Township, and later
Pleasant
Township, her entire teaching service covering a period of 35 years, 15
of which
was in Kouts. She was one of the charter members of The Church, a
society now
extinct.
Mr.
Hannon
retired from
farming thirteen years ago. They then purchased a small tract of land
in Kouts.
Mr. Hannon died last June and since that time Mrs. Hannon's health has
been
failing. Her death was due to heart trouble.
Surviving
are one son,
John, with whom she lived, one daughter Mrs. Mary Kelly, LaPorte, one
brother
Daniel of Seattle Washington, eleven grandchildren and scores of other
relatives both here and in Kouts.
Funeral
services will be
held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kouts,
Rev.
Father John Nickels, celebrating mass. Burial will be in the family
plot in St.
Mary's cemetery.
